ESG Data Survey Report
Bloomberg releases the 2024 ESG Data Survey Report, which aims to investigate ESG data related issues by financial market participants.
This survey was conducted from September 2023 to November 2023, and mainly targeted Bloomberg customers and ESG data experts in Europe. Respondents were mainly distributed in London (23%), Stockholm (20%) and Geneva (12%).

ESG Data Survey Results
There are four questions in this survey, namely ESG data priorities, ESG data challenges, ESG data management challenges, and ESG data management methods. A total of 220 people were surveyed, more than half of whom answered the above questions.
In terms of ESG data prioritization, 35% of respondents use ESG data to meet regulatory requirements, 18% use ESG data to analyze climate risks and net zero solutions, and the remaining uses are obtaining financial returns (17%), conducting impact investments (14%), calculating ESG scores (13%) and estimating biodiversity (3%).
In terms of ESG data challenges, 63% of respondents believe that the coverage and quality of ESG data may be insufficient, and 13% believe that it is difficult to combine ESG with alternative data. The remaining challenges include insufficient biodiversity data (9%), problems with EU Taxonomy calculations (7%), problems with Principal Adverse Impact (PAI) calculations (5%), etc.
In terms of ESG data management challenges, 41% of respondents believe that the continuous update of ESG data poses challenges, and 25% of respondents believe that integrating ESG data with existing analysis tools is difficult. Remaining challenges include meeting ESG reporting requirements (18%) and managing ESG data from multiple suppliers (16%).
In terms ESG data management methods, 38% of respondents have adopted proprietary solutions, 32% of respondents have left ESG data to business departments for separate management, and 20% of respondents are formulating an ESG data management strategy. The remaining 10% outsource ESG data management to third-party providers.
